How to Pick the Perfect Name for Your New Puppy

So you found the perfect puppy for your family. Now you have to name him. You want to find the perfect name for your puppy. Not too cutesy or frilly, but a name that fits his personality.

Classics such as Fido or Fifi never go out of style. But maybe the kids want to give her a hip name. Some people go with their favorite movie star or rock singer. Some like the names of mythical figures, presidents or family members. There is no end to the possibilities.

Here are some things to consider when picking a name:

Remember, that this will be a name that you will be using for the next 10-15 years. Make sure that you like the name.

Keep it simple. Names longer than three syllables become too awkward to use frequently.

Use the puppy's name whenever you speak to him or praise him, so that he knows it's his special word and he will coming running whenever he hears it.

Don't give your pup an embarasing name, because you will most likely be using it in public as well as the privacy of your own home.

Getting to know your puppy before you name her helps to find the right name. Play with your puppy. Try out a name for a few days or weeks to see if it feels like a fit. There is such a variety of names. Take the time to find that one that fits. You'll be glad you did.
